Nicholas “Trippy” Nugent was a smart, funny, talented, and energetic 7-year-old who enjoyed golf, hockey, flag football, swimming, video games, and playing with his sister and friends. He was a loyal brother, a loving son, and the best friend a kid could have.
On September 26, 2022, Tripp was diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), a terminal brain tumor, and given about 9 months to live. Over the next 18 months, Tripp would endure 73 sessions of radiation, four brain surgeries, dozens of MRIs, shunt and Amaya reservoir implants, Car-T-Cell aphaeresis, infusions, and countless numbers of needle pokes and blood draws. He saw doctors in Boston, Tampa, Michigan, and Seattle. There were lots of flights and long drives, but somehow Tripp did it all with a smile on his face and a happy attitude.
Even with all that going on, amazing memories were still made. He went to hockey, soccer, and baseball games. He met the New York Red Bulls and became an official member of the Tampa Bay Lightning, his favorite hockey team. Tripp met his idols, traveled with his family to Hawaii, and helped fundraise for kids in similar circumstances. Sadly, Tripp lost his battle with DIPG on March 31st, 2024, surrounded by his family. Tripp’s legacy will live on for years to come through the Team Trippy Foundation.
